LIVING

4. Standards and uses

In France, a law regulates the definition of adequate housing:

"For a home to be considered adequate, it must be equipped with the necessary features to make it fit for use as a home, adhere to minimum living space standards, and present no obvious risk to the physical safety or health of its occupants. Accommodation declared unsanitary (insalubrious environment) or hazardous (structure in danger of collapse) may not be considered as adequate housing". Decree no. 2002-120 of 30 January 2002.

The "Standards and customs" island is installed in an area representing the minimum living space for accommodation to be considered liveable in France. This is 9 m2 in area and at least 2.20 m in height from the floor to the ceiling, resulting in a minimum volume of 20 m3.
