Palais de la découverte

Entrée du Palais de la découverte

The fundamentals of science

The Palais de la découverte explores the fundamental principles of science we need to understand the world in all its complexity. Observing, experimenting and interpreting real phenomena are essential steps towards comprehending the world around us.

Visitors to the Palais de la découverte discover a unique atmosphere and approach, and immediately feel involved. The keywords here are investigation and exploration: science is demystified by making it more accessible, even to those who may feel it is beyond them. The content hinges on human experience, with scientific explainers and research scientists, phenomena to observe in real time, spectacular experiments and demonstrations, in both permanent and temporary exhibition environments.

The museum makes the most of its specific expertise by training young scientists and post-graduate assistants, and by helping researchers and teachers develop their communication skills. Areas called "A researcher, an experiment" act as a link between research laboratories and the public: helped by the museum's explainers, researchers regularly present new experiments to show how science is moving forward in their laboratory.
The Palais de la découverte occupies part of the Grand Palais in the centre of Paris. Its science exhibitions are a perfect complement to the major art shows staged in the Grand Palais, making it a particularly attractive venue for visitors to the city.
