Building with earth
Building in pisé
Pisé, or rammed earth, is a mixture of earth, sand or gravel and clay, which is kneaded and then compacted.
Where is the "pisé" building method traditionally used?
The "pisé" method best lends itself to stony earth. Some 12,000 years ago, glaciers which had slid down from the Alps began their final retreat. Upon melting, they left behind moraine, some of which was transformed into earth suited to the "pisé" method.
