Nanosciences and society

The new relationships implied by research into and controversy related to nanosciences and nanotechnologies make it vital that these matters should be generally discussed. In a proactive approach, preliminary study of the health, environmental, social and cultural impacts of nanotechnologies would benefit both science and democracy, which would gain in responsibility. The debate between scientists, politicians and the general public must be encouraged, with opportunities for discussion in the media, public meetings, scientific exhibitions, science cafés, etc. These issues affect all citizens.
