These
strange bluish objects
The following is a collection of images,
sometimes interesting or odd, almost always meaningful, that
show the role of aluminium in our lives and traditions. With
comments by Georges Ribeill from Latts (Laboratoire Techniques
Territoires Sociétés - Research Group of Technologies,
Territories and Societies). As an anecdote, here is a quote
taken from the September 1st, 1855 edition of “L’Illustration”:
“The World Exhibition contains not only samples of the
metal aluminium, but also objects made from this material. An
aluminium ingot was placed next to a silver ingot and at the
end of a month, after each had been touched by thousands of
hands, the silver had turned completely black, but the aluminium
retained its bluish whiteness.” |

When
aluminium is recycled…
Aluminium
inspires resourceful people or artists, and is consequently
recycled into a vast range ordinary objects. A new life begins.
