Aluminium
Age
Placing an emphasis on artistic creation,
science and industry, “The Aluminium Age” exhibition
traces the history of a metal that since its invention, now more
than 150 years ago, embodies the futuristic ambitions of a society
characterized by scientific and technological advances. Aluminium,
a metal that is both commonplace and precious, is one of the planet’s
most important elements, since it constitutes 8% of the Earth’s
crust. It plays an important role in many industries, from aerospace
to robotics, but also in haute couture, jewelry and modern furnishings.
"Aluminium
in Shapes”, an truly artistic display, exhibits a
collection of 163 items, brought together by the Carnegie Museum
of Pittsburgh. A four-part exhibit presented chronologically will
allow you to discover the diverse uses of this metal:
1. The invention of aluminium
2. Competition and conflict
3. The modern ideal
4. Crossing borders
“Aluminium on the Scene” shows its
origin and its presence in the Earth’s crust, explains the
conversion and manufacturing processes, its principal properties
and its industrial applications. In a setting defined by raw aluminium
ingots, this second part showcases seven stations for fun investigations
into the properties and technological issues related to manufacturing
aluminium.
1. Curiosity corner: where is aluminium hiding?
2. Production line: from the rock to a metal
3. Discovery center: Al, a sacred metal
4. Laboratory: united we’re strong
5. Moving platform
6. Display case: a panorama of applications
7. Recycling: aluminium’s never-ending life cycle
