Third-class passengers
were mostly emigrants searching for a better life in America. A
ticket to New York was worth 35 dollars (about 620 euros today).
Cabins in this class can fit four people travelling alone, often
speaking different languages.
These cabins were cramped and spare. The roof was generally covered
with interlaced piping and structural beams, and the sound and vibrations
of the engines were always heard and felt.
