Naboo, the Gungans' underwater city
The Gungans, Jar Jar Binks' people, use rudimentary technology but have nonetheless built an underwater city at a great depth, offering us the magical sight of thousands of spotlights lighting up the darkness. In fact, visible light is absorbed by water, so only a small fraction of the sun's rays actually reach a depth of 330 feet (100 m); perpetual night prevails beyond 1,650 feet (500 m).
Attempts to establish a permanent underwater base have all taken place at depths from 30 to 65 feet (10 to 20 m) to take advantage of sunlight. To protect themselves from the considerable pressure which exists at these depths (20 to 50 times greater than at the surface), Gungans live in bubble-like domes, whose composition is, to say the least, a mystery. They are totally waterproof but, nonetheless, the human body, which consists of 70 % water, passes right through them. The same kind of transparent wall lets sunlight shine through but blocks laser rays. Lastly, although it can deflect powerful shots, a battle droid can pass through it. As for how we could build a similar protective screen . that goes far beyond the capabilities of twenty-first century physics.
