Power world record

Yokohama city has now at its disposal the fastest super calculator in the world. Drawing its power from 5,120 processors, the Nec Earth Simulator is capable of performing up to 35,600 milliards of operations per second (35.6 teraflops), leaving far behind the American calculator ASCI White, previous holder of the record, with “only” 7 teraflops. Aim of this new machine: to simulate the environment of the planet and predict long-term phenomena such as global warming.
