PSA Peugeot Citroën: the automotive “French touch”
PSA is the sixth-biggest car company in the world and the second biggest in Europe.
In 2002, PSA sold more than 3.26 million vehicles of their brands Citroën and Peugeot worldwide.
PSA operates in more than 140 countries and has 50 plants worldwide.
China is one of the main markets of PSA, which has been active in China for several decades.
PSA is represented by about 500 dealers and aservice network. In 2002, PSA sales rose by 57% to
85,500 vehicles.
Facilities include the Wuhan and the Xian Fang plants in Hubei province:
Wuhan plant produces the ZX Fukang, the ZX Fukang 988 notchback and the Citroën Xsara Picasso. Wuhan produced 84,400
vehicles in 2002.
Xian Fang is a mechanical component dedicated to engines, transmissions and
chassis assemblies for the Wuhan plant.
In 2002 PSA and Dong Feng Motors signed a joint venture agreement, expending the cooperation
between the two Groups. Known as Dong Feng Peugeot Citroën Automobiles (DPCA), the new company will comprise an
engineering and production division and two marketing divisions for the Peugeot and Citroën
brands.
Wuhan will be home to the Group's new Platform 2, as well as another platform for small vehicles.
In all, six Peugeot and Citroën passenger car models will be manufactured at the plant beginning in 2004.
